Exposure for Canadian performing artists and their music is an important component of the festival’s programming vision. Canadian artists generally represent 95% or more of the festival’s programming on an annual basis. The festival has a significant impact on the lives of many of the musicians that have participated in the event. A quick review of any festival program from years gone by indicates the names of performers who have gone on to become established award-winning artists on both the canadian and international jazz music scene.

On an individual basis, no artist can replicate the synergy and public exposure generated by this event.

Artists and ensembles/bands are selected through auditions, by submitting press kits and demo soundtracks, or by invitation. Information regarding participation is disseminated through socan, the music directory and other publications and music organizations.

Inclusion in the festival line-up is not automatic. Performers are chosen not only for the caliber of music that’s presented but for their impact or contribution to the canadian and/or international jazz music scene.
