At the tender age of 19, Winnipeg-native Sophie Berkal-Sarbit is already a seasoned performer.  Singing with deep emotion, musical skill, infallible pitch and innate good taste, Berkal-Sarbit’s strong background in musical theatre has given her comfort on stage and an instant affinity with an audience.  On her sophomore album, Young & Foolish, producer/arranger Bill King has created an eclectic follow-up to Berkal-Sarbit’s well-received debut release, Gypsy in My Soul.  Berkal-Sarbit’s dynamic voice is a direct inheritance from her grandfather Rabbi Louis Berkal, a nationally revered Rabbi and trained cantor.  Back home in Winnipeg, Berkal-Sarbit is one half of the successful musical performance group, “Le Duo,” with guitarist Ariel Posen.  Berkal-Sarbit is a key member of Bill King’s popular contemporary jazz vocal quartet, “Real Divas.” Berkal-Sarbit moved to Toronto last July and has quickly become a regular on the jazz scene.  Most recently, she was honoured by leading skincare manufacturer, Galderma, as an ‘Inspirational Star’ – an outstanding teen chosen to act as part of Galderma’s landmark self-esteem awareness campaign.
