Born in Sancti Spíritus, Cuba, Elmer Ferrer is widely recognized as one of the world’s finest modern guitarists. An accomplished composer, producer, arranger and performer, Ferrer began playing the guitar at the age of 12. After four years of classical training, Ferrer is now known as Cuba’s most sought after electric guitarist. He has contributed to several musical recordings, including two Latin Grammy-nominated albums and an Oscar nominated movie soundtrack, El Benny. In 2003, Ferrer won the ‘Best New Album Award’ at the International Music Fair Cubadisco where he was also nominated for ‘Best Jazz Album of the Year’. The following year, he formed a band in Havana and emerged onto the international music scene with his second album, Fango Dance. Ferrer’s signature high-energy jazz, blues and rock fusion has been called “an advanced mix of Cuban jazz with electric blues” and has brought him great critical acclaim.
