Their first year has been an eventful one. In early October 2008, Monkey Junk won a local contest to represent Ottawa at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, TN in February 2009. Monkey Junk did Ottawa and Canada proud at the IBC placing THIRD out of 100 bands from around the world! Also of note, Monkey Junk was nominated for a 2008 Maple Blues award as “New Artist of the Year” and Steve Marriner won the 2008 Maple Blues Award for “Harmonica Player of the Year”. Year two plans to be even more eventful as the band will tour Canada from coast to coast including many large festivals along the way promoting their CD and unique brand of swamp R&B, soul boogie and bedroom funk.
Monkey Junk is a band that draws heavily on the legends of the blues and translates that influence into a contemporary blend of sweet tones and good time grooves. This triple threat trio draws on over 50 years of combined experience playing blues live and in studio ... and it shows. Check out the energy and emotion present in their songs it's infectious you can't deny it so don't even try just give in to the vibe that is Monkey Junk.
