A multi talented artist and performer, Ms. Andrew has been extensively trained in New York and Los Angeles and is pleased to be re-based in Toronto. Formally trained in acting, singing, and dance, Ms. Andrew is a graduate of the Randolph Academy for the Performing Arts, and has served as a member of the faculty. Along with numerous other professional theatrical accomplishments, Ms. Andrew is proud to have been an original cast member of the Tony Award-winning Broadway Musical ‘RAGTIME’. While on Broadway, Ms. Andrew performed in concert with Chita Riviera, Julie Andrews, Liza Minnelli, Glenn Close, and Rosie O’Donnell.
One of Ms. Andrew's most memorable Musical Theatre accomplishments was working with the late Gwen Verdon in the Tony Award-winning Musical ‘FOSSE’. Following her time in New York, Ms. Andrew went on to play ‘Anita’ in the Stratford Festival of Canada's production of ‘WEST SIDE STORY’ which brought her recognition for her ‘triple threat abilities. Along with numerous other theatre accomplishments, a production of ‘SOPHISTICATED LADIES’ garnered her respect form numerous critics including a, “spectacular” reference from the GLOBE AND MAIL.
Ms. Andrew is currently the owner and founder of AURORA LIVE INC. DANCE STUDIOS in downtown Toronto. Ms. Andrew offers professional level training in various dance forms to children and adults of varying levels and abilities. As a current Business Owner, Dance Educator, Choreographer, and Performer, Ms. Andrew also holds numerous positions within the Professional Performing and Educational Arts Community in both Toronto and the GTA. Ms. Andrew currently facilitates Dance, Music, and Movement programs in over six Public and Catholic Elementary schools, various Colleges, and Early Learning centers, along with specialized programming at her own Aurora Live Inc. Dance Studios.
A community leader and committed advocate for the arts as a whole, arts education, and the performing arts in Toronto and the GTA, Ms. Andrew remains passionate about the successful implementation of arts activities throughout the neighborhood she represents and conducts business.
Ms. Andrew also continues her choreographic pursuits through her own professional Contemporary Jazz Dance Company ‘A’ LIVE Dance Movement and continues to create and produce ground breaking, intelligent, thought provoking work which continues to be well received throughout the arts community.
A Professional Contemporary Jazz dance company created and founded by Dancer/Choreographer Ms. Karen Andrew with a focus on merging contemporary jazz dance with contemporary jazz music. The company aspires to create thought provoking, entertaining, and intelligent collaborations between dance artists, musicians, and various other performance artists. With over fifteen years of professional performance experience, Ms. Andrew wishes to explore movement in unconventional and previously undefined terms, in order to bring forth contemporary jazz dance in its most unique form. Working with professional performers and students, the aim of the company is to provide performance opportunities and creative outlets for not only professionals, but to aspiring professionals also.
