Alexis Baro was born and raised in the mecca of Latin music, Havana, Cuba. He grew up in a musical family and began playing the trumpet at a very early age. Inspired by his mother and aunt (both of whom played with the national ballet and symphonic orchestras of Cuba), Baro received classical training and earned his teaching certification from the famed Amadeo Roldan music institute in Havana.
Since relocating permanently to Toronto in January of 2001, he has toured extensively throughout Canada and Europe performing with various artists. He has been the lead trumpet on the Canadian Idol show for the past three seasons and is a feature soloist on Hilario Duran's 2007 Juno Award winning CD “From The Heart”.

He performed at the 50th Anniversary Concert of "The Quintet" at the famous Massey Hall in Toronto with the Massey Hall All-Star Big Band and in 2004 he was honored as a co-winner of the National Jazz Award for best acoustic group (Kollage).

Baro was nominated in 2005, 2006 and 2007 for the National Jazz Award for best Trumpet player and has received a Gemini Award for a live television performance with the band Kollage.

He has performed with Omara Portundo, Paquito D'Riviera, David Foster, Andrea Bocelli, John Secada, The Temptations, Hilario Duran, NOJO, CaneFire, Alex Cuba, Son Ache, David Rudder, Kollage, Cassava, Ruben Vazquez and The Puentes Brothers.

Alexis brings his own unique brand of high energy Latin jazz and funk-jazz grooves on his soon to be released CD “ From The Other Side”.
