The festival season is upon us and the excitement is building for the 19th Annual Beaches International Jazz Festival. As Artistic Director of Beaches Jazz, I'm proud to announce yet another strong line-up for the 3 major musical components of the festival:

PartiGras
PartiGras!, the prelude, at The Distillery Historic District featuring Boogie Woogie piano queen Deanna Bogart, Hamilton Roots Rocker Tom Wilson, the pairing of 2007 Smooth Jazz Awards Pianist of the Year nominee Eddie Bullen with soulful songstress Marisa Lindsay from Barbados, and Maple Blues Awards winningsinger/songwriters Rick Fines & Suzie Vinnick.

StreetFest
StreetFest, along Queen Street that includes new additions Julie Cochetière and First Nations Bluesman Brock Stonefish, 2007 Smooth Jazz Guitarist of the Year Johannes Linstead, and the ever popular Celtic Fusion of Dr. Draw.

KEW Gardens MainStage
The OLG MainStage Concerts, in Kew Gardens highlight dynamic Chicago Bluesman Carl Weathersby, the Funk attack of Bonerama from New Orleans, Tenor Pannist David “Ziggy” Walcott from Barbados, explosive Blues/Rock guitarist Kal David and the Real Deal, and Juno Award winning Cuban pianist and bandleader Hilario Duran. And I've got new Fish Fry material, (and a new CD) that I can't wait to share.

TD Workshops
And, in keeping with our practice of educating as well as entertaining, we are - once again through the help of TD Canada Trust - offering a series of informative workshops at a new location, The Mennonite New Life Centre at 1774 Queen Street East. On the evenings of July 23rd, 24th, and 25th the following workshops are being presented, (check the workshops section for times and registration details):

Cuban Percussion Workshop with Mireya Escalante

History Of The Tenor Sax with Alex Dean

Rock School with Neil Chapman

Jazz On Radio with Jaymz Bee

Jazz Kitchen Southern Cooking with Kevin Clark

Jazz Tactics Workshop with Chase Sanborn

An Overview On Remote Recording with Danny Greenspoon

Ladies Night On The Dance Floor with Josie Marasco

Ovation of Jazz
Completing the Beaches Jazz Festival activities, is our annual fundraiser for Toronto East General Hospital, The Ovation Of Jazz, held at The Balmy Beach Club on Wednesday July 25th at 6:00 p.m. Enjoy an evening of fine food provided by various Beaches establishments, music, door prizes, a silent auction and more with all proceeds going to the Toronto East General Hospital.

We've got the largest free festival in Canada with world class entertainment, a great vibe, and fun for one and all. Bring your dancin’ shoes!
