Thousands of Jazz lovers enjoyed the 2nd Annual Beaches Jazz festival in 1990. After such a successful first festival the summer before, Lido Chilelli, the driving force behind the raising of funds for the Senior Link charity, set his hopes and aspirations high for year two. His aim was $25,000 for seniors in the Beaches over two days. The final amount raised was $15,400. But there was always next year! The fund raising only came from the sale of programme advertising, souvenir T-shirts and hats (except for the programmes, which were distributed free!). One of the nicest aspects of the festival was (and still is) FREE admission! And so was the parking at the Greenwood racetrack courtesy of the Ontario Jockey Club, with a free double-decker shuttle-service. As a result, 33,000 people attended the 2nd Annual Beaches Jazz festival and heard a variety of jazz artists and groups perform a wide spectrum of jazz, from modern to traditional. |
