2007 Juno award nominated singer-songwriter Kellylee Evans is a unique voice in today’s urban-jazz world. With a smooth style that slides through jazz, soul, R&B, blues and world music rhythms, Evans’ calming sound speaks volumes. Since the release of her 2006 debut album Fight or Flight?, Evans’ music has delighted radio audiences across Canada. Fight or Flight? was also released in the United States and selected as a Barnes and Noble ‘Discover Great Music’ title; an impressive achievement for an independent artist. Winner of a 2007 Canadian Smooth Jazz award for ‘Female Vocalist of the Year’ and nominee for a 2007 Juno award for ‘Best Vocal Jazz Album’, Evans’ much anticipated second album The Good One was released in May 2009. In 2004, Evans was awarded second place in the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocals Competition, held at The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. The judges – Quincy Jones, Al Jarreau, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Kurt Elling, Jimmy Scott and Flora Purim – chose Evans out of a pool of over 160 gifted vocalists from around the world. Recently, she has performed with award-winning saxophonist Jane Bunnett and has opened shows for Tony Bennett, Chris Botti, Derek Trucks and Maceo Parker. Evans has also studied with bassist Christian McBride (Sting, Diana Krall) and vocalist Janis Seigel (Manhattan Transfer) at the Jazz Aspen Snowmass Academy in Colorado.
